An untitled essay describing the circumstances under which he finally wrote a sequel to Dodo: "I contemplated writing a further chronicle of Dodo very soon after the original book came out twenty years ago [in the 1890's], in which, as I have now carried out, Dodo can not get rid of her husband, whom she had married, as she says herself, out of fear, and remains her life in England ..." Dodo the second was published about 1913.
